As a bright town with a tumultuous past and a particularly rich heritage, Gardanne distinguishes itself by a two millenium long history. Gardanne is a town colored as red and ochre clay, endowed with a great part of wooded green areas. Green tourism and outdoor excursions opportunities are numerous in Gardanne.

You can hike on the marked footpaths, climb on the Colline du Cativel, discover its 16th century mill and the Colline des Frères with its open-air museum dedicated to Cézanne’s works. The Claou cabin and the Payannet hamlet outside of the city make of Gardanne a master of ambition in the sector of green tourism.

More than 20,000 inhabitants meet each other every day and share a true village way of life. Gardanne is a town animated by its street market very reputed in the Bouches-du-Rhône territory.

This is in the heart of this ancient coal field, where visitors from the whole world come to look for the magic of a unique site immortalized by Cézanne.
