Our town holds a strategic position in the heart of Provence, between Marseille, Aubagne and Aix-en-Provence.

Tourism holds a predominant place here. Especially well-known for the famous impressionistic painter from Aix-en-Provence Paul Cézanne through his paintings. Gardanne is the only village painted by the artist. The Gueydan family played a role in the reputation of the town, some signs of their passage are visible as the castle which holds their name. The landscaping of the valley of Valabre and the creation of the Land Art excursion, perfect example of green tourism in Gardanne which is priority in the tourism development policy here. Gardanne has eight hiking trails, which enables to discover and enjoy the beautiful Provence landscapes. Anyone who enjoys nature tourism will be pleased with the representation of the regional fauna and flora, visible at the Mediterranean Forest ecomuseum.

The Tourist Office also wishes to develop industrial tourism in the Pays d’Aix, justified by the presence of Rio Tinto, European leader in the sector of alumina and the thermal power plant supplying all the territory of the Aix-en-Provence countryside. Craftsmen and farmers help Gardanne to develop tourism with the ceramic artists in the Tilery Bossy, a saffron producer, a unique variety of beetroot producer, Valabre and Féraude wine estate and beekeepers.
