Foire aux Santons
Since 1934, the Foire aux Santons d'Aix-en-Provence has been an essential part of the calendar tradition. A veritable showcase for the expertise of our santon makers, you can discover their latest creations and start or complete your own crib.
The predecessor of the Santon fair was called the Marché de la Sainte-Barbe. It was the town's biggest annual gathering. Jean Baptiste Fouque and his son Paul set up their santon stand at this market in December 1934, and were joined by other santon makers over the years. Thus was born the famous annual Santon fair.
The inauguration takes place on November 29th at 10am. at the Saint-Jean Baptiste du Faubourg church, with a mass for the santon makers, and at 11.30am. with the blessing of the Foire aux Santons, to the sound of galoubets-tambourins and Provencal songs, on the Esplanade Cezanne.
